Students from 16 secondary schools in Mauritius are already in the starting blocks for Deba Klima, a competition aimed at raising awareness and mobilizing secondary school students around the challenges of climate change. Who will follow the steps of Collège de La Confiance, the overall winner of Season 3 last year?
As part of this year’s competition, the Mauritius Broadcasting Corporation (MBC), in collaboration with the Mauritius Commercial Bank (MCB) and the Rajiv Gandhi Science Center (RGSC), will broadcast a series of episodes showcasing the participants’ preparations at their respective schools. Mauritians will be able to follow the students’ preparation for the debates from Saturday, 11 April to 2 May, starting at 8:30 p.m. on MBC1 and MBC Sat.
Immersion
These episodes, titled “Dan Koulis”, will offer an in-depth look at the participants’ preparation process, including coaching sessions on public speaking, developing content in Creole, and educational mentoring, among other aspects. The aim is to highlight the discipline, commitment, and creativity of young people as they prepare to speak out on one of the most urgent challenges of our time.
A Thrilling Fourth Season
The fourth season of Deba Klima, which begins in May, promises to be an exciting one. Once again, students from 16 secondary schools across the island will make their voices heard and share their ideas on the critical issues threatening our planet. Deba Klima, whose objective is to raise awareness and actively involve Mauritian youth in the fight against climate change, is an initiative of MCB and the Rajiv Gandhi Science Center, in collaboration with Dr. François Gemenne, a specialist in the geopolitics of the environment and migration.
