MCB customers are increasingly favouring digital payments. The momentum towards cashlite solutions, which has been building over several years, has continued to rise in 2025.

Transactions using QR codes surged 67% in 2025 compared to the previous year, while contactless payments increased 4%. As such, the proportion of cash transactions among individual customers dropped from 30% to 27% at the end of December 2025.

This trend was also observed among the bank’s customers during the festive period. Transactions via cards and QR codes increased by 18% on Black Friday, by 9% on Christmas shopping, and by 9% on end-of-year shopping. In total, between 1st November and 31st December 31, 17.3 million transactions were carried out by MCB customers using cards and QR codes. This represents a 13% increase compared to the corresponding period in 2024.
